Spencer Schwellenbach has definitely been turning heads this spring. A 2.41 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and that WHIP of 0.86? Those are numbers you can’t ignore, but you’re absolutely right—spring training stats can be a little tricky. The competition is usually not quite as stiff, and the smaller sample size can skew things. That said, if Schwellenbach can maintain even a portion of that performance as the season progresses, he could be a real asset to the Braves' pitching staff.

Cy Young talk might be premature at this point, though. The regular season is a different beast, and he’ll face hitters who’ve had the time to adjust to his stuff. But, hey, if he comes out and continues to dominate, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him make some noise in the conversation. A breakout season from him would be huge for the Braves, no doubt about it.

I think the Braves will ultimately go with the hot hand, but they have plenty of flexibility.
