Man, I’m pumped to see AJ Smith-Shawver take the mound. The kid’s got serious stuff—big arm, tons of upside. It might be early, but if he shows he can handle the pressure in Spring, I wouldn’t be shocked if he sneaks into the rotation at some point this season. Even if he starts in Triple-A, I think he’s one injury or cold streak away from getting the call. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

As for the rotation overall, it’s gonna be interesting. With guys like Lopez and Elder in the mix, and Fried and Strider anchoring things, the Braves actually have a good problem: too much talent. Depth is everything in a long season, so I’m cool with the team being extra cautious with younger arms like AJ for now.

Now, Drake Baldwin? Dude’s been raking. I don’t know if we’ll see him early on—catchers usually take a little longer to break in—but with the way he’s progressing, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s up late in the season or at least makes some noise next spring. It all depends on how healthy and productive Murphy and d’Arnaud stay.

As for the MLB schedule—I’m kinda on the fence. I like seeing the Braves play more teams, but man, I miss those 19 grudge matches with the Phillies or Mets. Those games used to feel like playoff previews. I get why they’re balancing it out, but I think it does water down some of the rivalries. That said, from a fairness standpoint, yeah—it probably helps in terms of wild card races and overall records.

Bold prediction for 2025? I think AJ ends up starting meaningful games by August, Baldwin makes his debut before September, and the Braves finish with one of the top three records in the league. Just gotta stay healthy!

What about you—think AJ's ready for the big stage?
